First Session August 21, 2012

On Tuesday this week we will introduce the topic of evolutionary medicine. We will tackle some of these questions about evolutionary medicine:

What is it?

Why is it important?

What do doctors need to know about evolution?

What evolutionary concepts are useful in medicine?

What needs to happen before evolutionary biology is routinely taught and discussed in medical school and in medical practice?

Please read these two articles this week:

Alcock and Schwartz. A clinical perspective in Evolutionary Medicine: What we wish we had learned in medical school.  Evolution: Education and Outreach, 2011.

Stearns. Evolutionary Medicine: Its Scope, Interest, and Potential. Proceedings of the Royal Society B, 2012, under review.

See you in Castetter 258 at 5:30 tomorrow!
